Statistics Question?
Alrite well I'm doing a worksheet and I'm stumbling on this one question. The question say to identify each data set's level of measurement: Nominal, ordinal, interval, and Ratio.
a) A list of uniform nuumbers retired by each major league Baseball team
b) the humber of products sold by a toy manufacturer each quarter of the year
c) the finishing times of the runners in the boston marathon
I'm pretty sure I know b and c (interval,ratio) but i'm getting confused on A. In my book it says that the numbers on marathon runners are nominal but in the powerpoint it says that team jerseys are ordinal. Why the difference? what do ya'll think?
Well I might see the source of the confusion; Wikipedia says "At one time, a Baseball Player's number was specifically related to his place in the batting lineup," which makes it seem to have once been ordinal, yet it goes on to describe a lot of modern-day numbering to be very arbitrary (mostly based on what numbers players like to have), and thus merely nominal.

The Purpose of A Baseball Betting System
Many people all over the world wager on Baseball Games. Some will win, some will lose. The ones who win consistently are very likely to follow a baseball betting system. Not only the ballpark but the weather can be a major issue contributing to a game going over the total. Certain ballparks, the weather elements have a greater effect on the game. There are many ballparks are more friendly to the pitchers than the hitters. This is due to things like open air stadiums, larger ball park dimension and such. Every ballpark has its own history. That is true for the pitcher and the batters as well. Never assume that all ballparks are alike. They do vary greatly from city to city. This is just another important variable of a baseball betting system.
Team hitting needs to be broken down just like pitching rotation. Just about every team goes through some type of streak throughout the season. There are winning streaks, hitting streaks, losing streaks and many more. I recommend to never good to be against a current streak. Teams or players can continue a streak for lengthy periods of time. Although when a streak comes to an end most times the player or team affected will then experience an emotional letdown for a long period of time. All current streaks shall be accounted for in a baseball betting system.
The final point I want to stress is pay close attention to any past match ups. History repeats itself many times in this sport. When developing a baseball betting system realize that certain teams just dominate other teams in the field of play. Before you wager on a side or handicap entirely on a pitcher statistics, be sure you take a look at the recent statistics. You just may notice unique angles that certain players have that are not particularly true about the team. Following a baseball betting system give you the sports better a chance against the sports book. The sports book has all the statistics and news tidbit, you need to be equipped as well.
